GETTING THERE


By air

The main international airport in Belarus is Minsk International Airport (MSQ). The national carrier Belavia offers flights from many European countries to Belarus. Belavia destinations include: Austria (Vienna), Cyprus (Larnaca), Czech Republic (Prague), France (Paris), Germany (Berlin, Hannover, Frankfurt), Ireland (Shannon), Italy (Milan, Rome), Latvia (Riga), Poland (Warsaw), Russia (Kaliningrad, Moscow, St. Petersburg), Turkey (Istanbul), UK (London, Manchaster), Ukraine (Kiev).

Other airlines that offer flights to Belarus include: Aeroflot, Air Baltic, Austrian Airlines, CSA, Estonian Air, LOT, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.

By bus

Getting to Belarus from many European countries by bus is pretty easy. There are direct routes to Minsk from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Russia run by Ecolines, Nordeka, Eurolines and Vares Reisid.

By train

There are direct rail connections to Belarus from Poland, Ukraine and Russia but it is easy to get to Belarus by train from other European capitals as well.


By car

The main road crossings are: Berestovitsa, Peschatka, Brest and Domachevo (border with Poland); Tomashevka, Mokrany, Verchny Terebezhov (border with Ukraine); Urbany (border with Latvia); Kamenny Log and Benyakony (border with Lithuania). All travellers entering Belarus by car are required to buy a Belarusian insurance at the border. The cost ranges from 5 euro/15 days to 50 euro/year.



GETTING AROUND



By bus/tram


Public transport in Belarus is cheap. In Minsk one can travel by underground, buses, trams and trolleybuses. Tickets can be bought at newsagents or on board.


By taxi

Every taxi has a ‘taxi’ sign on the roof. Taxis can be ordered by phone or found at the taxi stands. They are fairly cheap.


By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International driving licenses are required. Drivers must also have the Belarusian insurance and car registration documents. Driving under the influence of alcohol is prohibited. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Children under the age of 12 must travel in the back seats. Speed limits: built-up areas – 60 km/h, motorways – 100 km/h, outside built-up areas – 90 km/h.
