By air

The main international airport in Estonia is Tallinn Airport (TLL). The national carrier Estonian Air offers flights from many European countries to Estonia. By sea

The main sea port in Estonia is in Tallinn. There are ferry services to Estonia from Finland, Germany and Sweden. These are run by Tallink, Viking Line and Eckerö Line.

By bus

Estonia has direct links with Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. One of the companies that links Estonia with other European countries is Eurolines.

By train

The only international rail connection to Estonia is from Moscow. The journey lasts 16 hours.


By car

Estonia is well connected with the neighbouring countries. The main border crossings are: Valka, Ainazi and Vastse-Roose (Latvian border), and Narva (Russian border).



GETTING AROUND



By bus/tram

In Tallinn one can travel by bus, tram or trolleybus. Tickets (the same tickets for every means of transport) can be purchased from kiosks or on board. Public transport in Estonia is inexpensive.


By taxi

Taxis in Estonia are plentiful and usually inexpensive (unless one comes across a dishonest driver). Taxi can be found at taxi ranks or ordered by phone. It is recommended to agree upon the fare beforehand.


By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. EU driving licenses are accepted. Drivers must also have insurance documents and car registration documents. The legal blood alcohol level is 0.0. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Speed limits: built-up areas – 50 km/h, outside built-up areas – 90 km/h, divided highways – 110 km/h. Dipped headlights must be on at all times. Mandatory equipment includes headlamp converters, two warning triangles, a visibility vest, a first aid kit and spare bulbs. Fire extinguisher is not obligatory but recommended.
