Beaches

Ireland can boast many beautiful, pristine and clean beaches. Visitors may choose from among hundreds of sandy or pebble beaches, quiet, sheltered as well as exposed and popular. Many of Irish beaches were awarded the blue flag and 97% of Ireland’s beaches meet EU water quality standards.


Sightseeing

There is plenty to see in Ireland. Every county shows evidence of ancient Celtic civilizations, Viking and Norman culture. Dublin is rich in history and offers numerous historical sights, museums and galleries. The list of tourist attractions in Ireland is very long. No matter which part of Ireland one will choose, there will be for sure many places of tourist attractions. Some of the top spots include Trinity College and the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, the Ring of Kerry and numerous castles such as Archbold’s Castle, Goat Castle, Bullock Castle and Malahide Castle.


Hiking/Walking

Ireland is a perfect destination for hiking due to its beautiful, green countryside, variety of landscape and mild climate. There are numerous trails with various levels of difficulty to suit all ages and levels of ability. Walking in this spectacular scenery is a great way to explore Ireland.


Skiing

The only artificial dry slope in Ireland is situated in Kilternan, Dublin County. Skiing is possible there throughout the year.


Water sports

Irish waters are a perfect for all water sports. On every coast one will find rental shops which offer equipment for water sports enthusiasts. Ireland can boast excellent conditions for surfing, kiteurfing, windsurfing, water-skiing, fly fishing, kayaking and other sports.


Fishing

Fishing in Ireland requires a fishing licence which costs from 20 to 50 euro. Fishing for salmon and sea trout requires a separate state fishing licence which can be obtained for a period of one day or even for a year. The licence can be obtained from fishing tackle shops or Regional Fisheries Board. Catching freshwater fish is allowed only by rod or line.


Rock climbing

Ireland is a land of rocks. The mountains and hills are mainly located near the coasts and thus rock climbing in such areas is extremely spectacular and unforgettable. This island is a paradise for rock climbers. The most popular and spectacular peaks in Ireland include Carrauntoohil 1 041 m and Croagh Patrick 765 m. If it rains, one can go for indoor rock climbing. The Mountaineering Council of Ireland’s and portal www.climbing.ie offer information about routes and conditions for rock climbers.


Nightlife

The first thing that comes to mind is famous Irish pubs that have a long tradition, where people gather together, chat, gossip and drink. But nightlife in Ireland can offer much more. In major cities there are plenty of lively nightclubs, cafes, disco-bars and music clubs which offer various types of music – from cool jazz to heavy rock, something for everyone’s taste. Pubs are open to 1am from Thursday to Saturday and to 11:30pm during the rest of the week. Nightclubs are open longer, even to 3am.


Others

Apart from activities mentioned above, there are other adventures that can be experienced in this unique country. For people who like contact with nature bird watching may be a good option. Watching wild dolphins might be even more exciting. These amazing mammals can be seen of the coast of Shannon. Other activities include horse riding, cycling, playing golf, paragliding and many others.
