By air

The main international airports in Norway include Gardemoen – Oslo International Airport (OSL), Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO) and Trondheim Airport Værnes (TRD).

By sea

By bus

Some European carriers connect European countries and Norway. Some international bus lines offer routes to Norway from Sweden and Denmark (Eurolines, Swebus Express and Säfflebussen).

By train

If one want to travel to Norway by rail, the best idea is to get to Sweden, Germany or Denmark and there take a train to Norway. These international services are offered by Norwegian State Railways.

By car

One can get to Norway by car from Sweden, Finland or Russia. However, it may be necessary to take a ferry.




GETTING AROUND


By bus/tram

Public transport in Norway is punctual and reliable. In Oslo tourists can use metro (T-bane), trams (trikk) or buses (buss). All three means of transport are run by Oslo Sporveien with common system of fares. Passes can be bought at kiosks, train station or from a driver (on bus). Tickets bought in advance are cheaper.


By taxi

Taxis (drosje) can be found at taxi ranks, ordered by the phone or hailed in the street. Taxi drivers accept credit cards and cash.


By car

Driving is on the right side of the road. International and foreign (European, US, Canadian, Australian) driving licenses are accepted. Driver must also have insurance documents and ownership/rental documents. It is forbidden to drive with alcohol level higher than 0.1 milligrams per milliliter of blood. There are severe penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol. Headlights must be on at all times. Driver and passengers must wear seat belts. Children under age of 4 must sit in child car seats. Speed limits: residential areas – 30 km/h, urban areas – 50 km/h, open roads – 80 km/h, motorways – 90 km/h. Radar traps are very frequent in Norway. It is recommended to have a fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, replacement bulb kit and snow chains (in winter). Visibility vests and warning triangle are mandatory.
