CLIMATE

Climate in the northern Portugal is Atlantic and climate in the south can be described as the mixture of the continental and the Mediterranean. In the south summers are hot and dry whereas winters are mild. In the north summers are hot and winters are cold and wet.

Temperatures

The average monthly temperatures in winter: from 8ºC in the north to 12ºC in the south. The average monthly temperatures in summer: from 22ºC in the north to 27ºC in the south. The average water temperature: 17ºC in winter and 21ºC in summer.

Precipitation

Annual total precipitation: 400–600 mm in the south, 1 200 mm in the northwest and 2 000 mm in the mountains.
