Beaches

Although Switzerland is a landlocked country it has numerous lakes with beautiful sandy beaches – such as Lake Biel, Lake Geneva, Lake Murten, Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Lugano, Lake Walen and Lake Zurich. Some beaches have free entrance and some require an entrance fee.


Sightseeing

Switzerland has dozens of tourist attractions and interesting sights. In Zurich one should see the charming Old Town (Altstadt), the twin-towered Grossmünster Abbey, the famous gothic Fraumünster Abbey with windows painted by Marc Chagall and the Townhall in Renaissance/Baroque style. There are also numerous interesting museums and galleries in the city, such as the Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus Zürich. Other cities worth visiting are Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Lucerne.


Hiking and rock climbing

Due to Switzerland’s mountainous geography, the country is perfect for hiking and rock climbing. It has more than 50 000 km of well-marked hiking trails for all levels – from easy walks to challenging climbs. The best regions with great hiking and climbing opportunities are the Valais, the Oberland and the Engadine. The hiking season lasts from July to September.


Skiing

Switzerland is famous for excellent ski resorts and winter sports opportunities. Top ski resorts are Portes du Soleil, Davos, Klosters, Zermatt, Verbier, Saas Fee and St Moritz.


Water sports

Switzerland’s numerous lakes and rivers offer great opportunities for water activities such as rafting, canoeing, water skiing, sailing and many others.


Fishing

Fishing in Switzerland requires a permit and a license. Each canton has separate licenses and permits that can be obtained for period of a day, a week, a month or a year. Fishing is prohibited on Lake Geneva.


Nightlife

Switzerland has a diverse nightlife. There is something for everyone - bars, nightclubs and cabarets for enthusiasts of popular culture, but also cinemas, opera and theatres.
