Beaches

The most famous and biggest resorts are Sunny Beach (Slunchev Bryag) and Golden Sands. (Zlatni Pyasatsi) However, Bulgaria can boast other numerous beautiful beaches which will please everyone – from a water sport enthusiast to a lazy sunbather. 8 Bulgarian beaches were awarded a Blue Flag.


Sightseeing

Besides its beautiful coast, Bulgaria has much more to offer. There is an abundance of tourist attractions in every region of the country. A must-see in Sofia is the Rotunda of St George – an impressive and the oldest building in the capital. Other attractions in the city include the National museum of History, Boyana Church (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Alexander Nevski Memorial Church. Another interesting place is Zhenski Pazar, a large market where one can buy almost everything from food to clothes and ironmongery.


Hiking and rock climbing

Bulgaria offers great opportunities for hikers and climbers. The most famous destinations include Rila, (in the Rila National Park – with four nature reserves under UNESCO protection), Pirin Mountains (in the Pirin National Park), Sredna Gora and Rhodope Mountains (with several nature reserves under UNESCO protection). There are numerous routes for all levels of hikers and climbers.


Skiing

Bulgaria is famous for golden beaches but it is also a fantastic destination for ski holidays. The most popular ski resorts are Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo, Chepelare and Vitosha. Great condition, modern facilities and low prices make Bulgaria a great destination for skiers and snowboarders.


Water sports

Water sports are becoming more and more popular and facilities are improving. The best facilities are to be found in the biggest resorts such as Sunny Beach or Golden Sands. Water sport enthusiasts can try windsurfing, water skiing, boating, yachting, etc.


Fishing

Fishing in Bulgaria requires a license (45 euro/year). Spearfishing in lakes and rivers is forbidden. In lakes and rivers one can fish for carp, chub, pike, perch and many other species. In the Black sea it is common to find blue fish, tuna, turbot and dogfish shark.


Nightlife

Nightlife in Bulgaria is vibrant and exciting. It offers a wide range of clubs, casinos, disco, bars and restaurants. Many nightclubs and bars remain open until dawn.
