Beaches

Germany has over 2 300 km of coastline and also many beautiful inland beaches. The finest beaches are to be found in the northeastern part of the country and in the Frisian Islands. White sand, clear blue waters are very inviting. Topless sunbathing is pretty common.


Sightseeing

Germany is a large country and it offers hundreds of attractions in every state. In Munich, Bavaria, one should see the Nymphenburg Palace, the magnificent building, former residence of the rulers of Bavaria; the famous English Garden and the Hofbräuhaus, the old brewery. Berlin is the cultural capital of the country and has 3 opera houses, 2 concert halls, 35 theatres and dozens of museums and art galleries. Besides these attractions, there are many more famous historical sights such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Cathedral. Also, in the capital it is recommended to visit the Charlottenburg Palace and the Postdam Square.


Hiking/Walking

Hiking is possible in every region of Germany. There are hundreds of well-marked routes (Wanderwege) through the forests, mountain landscapes and in the coastal regions. This is the best way to explore beautiful nature of the country.


Skiing

Skiing in Germany is not so famous as in neighbouring Austria, ski resorts are not that popular, peaks are not that high but there are definitely great conditions for skiers. The best ski destinations in Germany are located in the Bavarian Alps. Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding are all possible there.


Water sports

German lakes, rivers and coast offer great conditions for various water sports, including swimming, kayaking, rafting, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing.


Fishing

Fishing in Germany requires a fishing license (Fischereischein) and a fishing permit. In order to obtain a fishing license one has to apply to a fishing club, attend a 30- to 40-hourse course and pass a sport fishing exam. However, there is a simpler way to obtain a temporary license for tourists. In this case one has to apply to a fishing club and pass the exam without attending the course. In the former Eastern German states, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern only a fishing permit is required. It can be obtained from fishing clubs.


Rock climbing

The best conditions for rock climbing are in the southern regions of Germany, especially in the Bavarian Alps. Routes are usually well-marked. There are also plentiful possibilities for indoor climbing (Kletterhalle) in all major cities.


Nightlife

Germany has a vibrant and diverse nightlife. Major cities offer a wide variety of choice – bars, clubs with live music, discos, theatres, operas and restaurants. Germany is also the country of countless festivals, concerts and Oktoberfest.


Others

Germany has plenty to offer for tourists of various interests. Besides activities mentioned above, tourists can enjoy horse riding, cycling, playing golf, relaxing in spas, etc. Car enthusiasts may be willing to visit the museums of the most famous car manufacturers: BMW in Munich, Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart and Volkswagen in Wolfsburg.
